Today I'll do something I rarely do............Instead of yappin, I'll just show the easy peasy burlap stockings- The only sewing was the stocking itself- everything else was done with hot glue- YOU CAN DO THIS:)

How Does Your Garden Grow

Something that excites me about moving out of the city is being able to grow a ginormous garden.  Now, you can grow a garden anywhere you want nowadays, but ginormous needs some space:) I love to get my hands in the soil- yes, I rarely use gloves, because I love the way rich dirt feels and smells, and get this, I love to go barefoot all the time, but that's another blog for another day.  So, needless to say I love to get into the dirt, plant, water, fertilize, and then watch God do His thing with that tiny seed.  It always amazes me how God brings something out of nothing.  He is so good.
So, I've been researching different types of gardening to see what kinds of herbs, veggies, fruits and nuts I'd like to grow organically from heirloom seed, heirloom trees etc, and I am so stoked about this.

Like most of you, I've had gardens here and there and absolutely loved all of it.  I'm finding that there are all kinds of techniques to not only grow, but you can arrange your beds to naturally keep pests away.  On top of all the benefits of good healthy produce, this will save a large amount on our grocery bill + we can share!!! I love to share, because so many of you, my good friends, have shared with me:)  I look forward to growing a healthy garden that's beneficial to both the earth and all the bodies who will eat of it's bounty.    What kind of a garden do you prefer?  I'd love to hear your input, and then maybe next year, you can come and reap the benefits of our first harvest.

So close, yet, so far

Although this looks like we’re almost done with building our home, it’s almost only halfway done:) I had no idea that a house had so many innards, and my dad used to build houses! We’ve had so much fun so far. We’ve been using a business that allows us to be heavily involved in the building process. We can do as much of the labor as we’d like which will cut down on our bottom line, and will build instant equity.  It's been such an eyeopener to be so involved, yet, it's been extremely rewarding to have our hands in every part of our home.

Before we started building, we heard 99 horror stories, and maybe 1 positive on building a home, so needless to say I was a little nervous Nellie about this. But, as we worked with our consultant/builder, we’ve found that some days it’s quite easy, and fun to build a house. We’ve run into a few glitches here and there, that’s life, but EVERYTHING CAN BE FIXED- if you remember that when building, you’re halfway there:) Here are a few snapshots of our progress so far. Next week we’ll be pouring my favorite rooms, the porches!!! I can hardly wait. As you can see we’re going for a country/farmhousey/cottagey kinda style, if that even exists.  After we have finished the house- I will be sure to post names of the businesses we deal with who we loved working with.  Can't wait to share with you.  I’d love to hear what you think so far, and if you ever need building advice- give me a holler:)

DIY Chalkboard Paint fun

I know, I know, painting your own chalkboard is nothing new, but, I love working with chalkboard paint, coming up with different applications, using a wonderful product. Whether you're using Chalkboard spray paint, or roll on Chalkboard paint, you'll find that you can paint just about anything. You can paint ceramics, glass, plastic, wood etc.   Try painting a plate for a kitchen menu reminder or To Do list, paint a door to write recipes, or to remind your kids to take out the trash. Buy an inexpensive Craigslist end table for the kids, paint the top with chalkboard paint, for the only table they are allowed to color on.   Paint over an old framed painting, you have an instant chalkboard to hang up.  Paint jars or canisters for the kitchen.  Go to Dollar Tree, and pick up a plastic silver tray, it'll only cost you a buck + paint.  Create a labeled herb garden by painting clay pots.  It's so French:) 

 On top of all that, you're not limited on color anymore either, besides the old stand by green or black, you'll find every color of the rainbow at your local home improvement, or craft store.

If I Had A Hammer..........

You remember the song by Peter Paul & Mary(check it out below:)  Well, every girl needs herself a little tool box for those DIY projects around the house.  I love mine, and would recommend you get at least 10 tools to make your life a little easier.   Check out your local Lowes, Home Depot, or even Target for a nice selection and don't forget to store them in a cute little pink tool chest, store them under the sink or in the laundry room....................you'll thank me later!

1. A Hammer- just your basic claw hammer for around $10.00
2. Screwdrivers- a flathead and a phillips head a few dollars each
3. Measuring Tape- about 5 bucks
4. Level -around $10.00
5. Pliers- there are a bajillion kinds- pick what fits you best from around $7 & up
6. Wrench- an adjustable wrench can help with plumbing problems around $10.00
7. Glue Gun- this is a gun that shoots glue- if you don't know what this is, I'm sorry:)
8. Utility Knife- a few bucks
9. Pencil- steal one from your child
10. Power drill- excellent for hanging curtain rods- around $20.00
