Do you have the time?

Restoration Hardware-French Tower Clock

Howdy, from rainy, cool Oklahoma.  Today I want to share a little problem I am having, I've been struggling with it for quite a while now.  My problem is that I am crazy for clocks- I know, you feel sorry for me, you may even be a little embarrassed for me.  I'm sure my curious compulsion started as a young girl when my German mama put up our official authentic cuckoo clock.  I absolutely loved that clock, until about 11pm when I'd be jolted out of my sound slumber by a crazed bird squawking at the top of his little bitty wooden  lungs.  Maybe that's not such a sweet memory.
Anyway,  I have quite a few clocks, I've even given some away, so I wouldn't feel like a woman with a problem.  But, now, with a new home in our future, I'm thinking of filling the hallway with clocks of all shapes and sizes- yes it'll be noisy,  in the middle of the night, but, my bedroom is nowhere near the hall, so I'm good.  Here are a few cuties I've found in just a few minutes of searchin.

Light shopping

As we continue to work on building our home in the country, I've been excited at all the wonderful things I get to shop for:  floors, paint, sinks, toilets, baseboards, doors, door knobs etc.  Look at some of they lovely lights I've found:

horchow

I'm finding knock offs of  the lighting I really like, because  I refuse to pay $1500 for a light fixture, but, I'd love to see the home of the girl who does:)   I'm all about frugal, and if you shop around enough, with a good plan, you can find tons of knock offs of horchow, pottery barn, ballard design, and many more expensive designs, at some of your local lighting stores and even on ebay.   You can also buy some old brassy chandy at your local habitat store, and with a little ORB metal spray paint, you can bring new life to an old fixture.  Consider updating some of the lighting in your home.  You'll be surprised at how a sophisticated fixture can change the look of an ordinary room.

Have a great week!

I love being outside.....if it weren't so hot

When it's so stinkin hot outside, all I can do is dream about porch living, because me + humidity = a sweaty mess, or should I say, a glistening mess.  When I was a little girl, we spent a summer in Germany visiting my wonderful Oma Hilde- and we spent so much time on her porch enjoying meals and the view of beautiful countryside.  It made such an impression on me,  where I can't wait to have a big porch to enjoy our family meals and conversation.  So, in building our home, I've chosen a floor plan with 2 large porches- I can hardly wait.  But, in the meantime, take a look at some of the beauties found on Southern Livings site.

If your livin in Oklahoma, just remember, this will pass.  One day soon we can go back out without wilting.  Have a wonderful day friends.

Have a blessed day:

Isn't she lovely...

How many of you spend waaaay too much time on craigslist? Well, I'm a craigslist fiend, almost to the point of going to craigslist anonymous. I've got a problem. I don't know who this Craig fella is, but what a great idear:) Well, anyway I found a bargain, it's a gorgeous dresser, and she's beautiful, dontcha think???

I love her and she only cost me $30! Yep, $30. and zero cents. She needs a little TLC and some polishin up...............

But, for $30.00 I'm willing to spruce her up............

I think with a little elbow grease, some apple green paint, and mahogany stain, she'll be the envy of the hood........

I'll be working on her for a while, and I'll be happy to share sneak peeks along the way

outdoor living

Did you realize that you may have additional square footage with your home? Unless you're living in Anarctica or near the equator, the space outside your door is an extension of your home and can be used as dining space, a sitting area, and even an outdoor bedroom, yes, I said bedroom. Here's a picture of a porch bed, for that porch bedroom, and I really think I need to build one when we move out to our lil place in the country. I really love this one. Isn't she a beaut.
Try decorating a patio for a dinner party- go ahead, drag your dining table outside, or throw a piece of plywood over a couple of sawhorses, toss a simple linen tablecloth over the top, decorate your table with plants candles etc, put out your best china, or paper plates, whatever you like. Turn on some music, light the candles, fix a nice meal/or pic up some bbq. No matter how you do it, a little change like this can make your guests feel welcomed, and relaxed. If you are able to decorate your porch seasonally, you might consider something like Susan's porch- you can check our her blog HERE She's one of my favorite blogs, and has one of the most amazing porches I've ever seen, it truly is an outdoor living space. The important thing is to learn to enjoy every square inch of your home, make it feel like you care. Then when you're done, fix yourself a tall glass of iced tea, grab your favorite book, and a throw, in case it turns chilly. Take some time for yourself, now isn't that nice:)
